Hi I am a native Brooklynite I came into the death world after some health problems with my folks. I been a costume designer for the stage and screen for the past 20 years. Many of the skills I have used as a designer are what I use as a doula. Such as Caring about people and their stories. Listening intently to what people are saying. Helping create and uphold a calm atmosphere. Being a steady force in a chaotic, environment. Being a Doula is being able to be a silent partner, a family member, an advocate, and a knowledgable guide.

How I work
Each family / person is different. So the
first thing I do is show up, listen and learn. Then I turn my attention to help alleviate the top priority. Which could be giving a family member a break, or helping to call around to different hospices, or talking out a problem or a bed bound person may need an errand. So the first thing we do is sit and chat.
Over time it’s making sure the person I am working with is heard, seen, and I can bring moments of Joy. Either in listening to music, or talking, or just being present.
As a designer I have to make an actor comfortable as soon as they step into a fitting room, and meet me for the first time. I aim to bring that immediate comfort to my clients. So we can be in the moments of grief and the moments of joy with more ease.
If the person is in the hospital my role turns more advocate. Making sure there are eyes on the person, noticing if there are changes, if the family needs a break or if meds are working and making sure the family and doctors know what’s going on.
In some cases I have been with the family afterwards helping figure out the design and details of final arrangements.
Every story comes to an end differently and I am here to help facilitate in whatever way I can.
