Hi, I'm Kim. I'm a trained death doula, and I've been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 2008. My whole life has been about caring for humans and animals, in sickness and at the very end. This work found me through my own years as a sick kid in and out of hospitals, and I never want anyone to feel like a chart with a diagnosis on it the way I once did. When I am in the room, there is no rush. Some days someone may want company, some days they may want to be alone with their own fear and their own peace, and both of those are fine by me. Sometimes the most useful thing I do is just staying close enough that you don't have to hold it by yourself.

How I work
Usually I just start by talking with family. No clipboard, just trying to understand where you're at and what's actually weighing on you. Sometimes that's practical stuff, like what to expect next. Sometimes it's someone needing to sit vigil so they can finally close their eyes for an hour. From there we figure out together what's needed, whether that's legacy work, help understanding what's happening, or just presence in the room. I work alongside hospice and family, never in place of them. And if there's a pet in the mix too, I notice that grief, because it's real and it usually gets skipped over. My hope is that by the end, everyone in that room, including the person dying, feels a little less braced and a little more held.
